Page Common & Page8 Hotel

May 5, 2020

A couple of weeks BC (before Covid-19) I was invited for breakfast at Page Common at Page8 Hotel. The first hotel of the Page Hotel group outside of Hong Kong, Page8 boasts a prime location right by tourist hotspot Trafalgar Square at 8 St Martin’s Lane, the ideal location for urban explorers to create their own city break story.

Exterior image of Page8 hotel in Covent Garden, close to tourist hotspot Trafalgar Square and home to Page Common artisanal coffee house.

Page Common transforms the traditional hotel lobby into an uber-chic artisanal coffeehouse and lifestyle space. The interiors are made up of a very modern colour palette of greys, wood, statement furniture, black and white photography on the walls and indie glossies and curated lifestyle books covering the small marble tables.

The menu consists of exceptional artisanal coffee, craft beers, an expertly chosen wine selection and a small selection of breakfast/brunch dishes that they do incredibly well. First of all we took our sweet time (as per) perusing the slightly overwhelming drinks menu. My mum went for the fanciest Earl Grey I’ve ever seen, presented on a wooden board with beautiful ‘mug’ milk jug and glass teapot. I chose from the hand drip coffee list as we were told that this brewing method accentuates the intricate flavours and allows the aromas to shine more than with other brewing methods (sounded good to me!) I love a good cup of coffee but I’m far from a coffee snob, so I don’t mind telling you that when I went for a Rwandan coffee and the menu went into details of the region: Muhanga, altitude: 1800-2000m, variety: Red Bourbon and processing: natural – it was the tasting notes of watermelon, pink apple and raspberry coulis that made my choice for me – sweet tooth all the way! My coffee arrived equally beautifully presented, and while I didn’t quite catch the watermelon notes, the coffee was undoubtedly one of the best I’ve ever tasted (I would go all out and say the best but my memory isn’t that great so I can’t be sure!)

The food at Page Common is a food blogger’s dream let me tell you, the prettiest plates of food, on gorgeous tableware. I went for the Figs & Cheese Toast: which was beautiful crusty sourdough by Paul Rhodes (one of the leading independent bakeries in London), covered in outrageously creamy goat’s cheese and soft cheese, topped with a generous portion of really stunning figs, roasted hazelnuts and with blossom honey drizzled over the top. Honestly one of my favourite breakfast dishes I’ve had recently it was so light and the sweet figs and honey with the creamy cheeses and nutty flavour of the hazelnuts with the fresh bread – heaven! My mum went for the Avocado on Toast which was equally pretty, it came with the same delicious sourdough by Paul Rhodes luckily for her, with guacamole full of lime juice and zest, topped with sliced avocado and with a side of fresh figs. She opted for a poached egg on top which was perfectly poached, a delicious and exquisitely presented avocado toast!

When we were finished eating the staff really kindly offered to give us a tour of the hotel. We got tours around a Family Room and Suite, I was obsessed with the gorgeous dark blue and white colour palette, the beautiful marble bathrooms and the little luxury touches like Co Bigelow toiletries, Blueair air purifier, Marshall speaker and of course in-room artisanal coffee drip bag and tea. As throughout the entire hotel, the rooms exuded style while not compromising on cosy comforts.

We also got a sneak preview of the stunning rooftop, with incredible views of Trafalgar square and the surrounding area. This summer they are set to open a rooftop bar and Japanese restaurant, and if you know me you will know how much this excites me! Gorgeous rooftop with incredible views, sunset cocktails and sushi? Count me in!

I can just picture myself here with a cocktail in hand at sunset, can’t you?

I for one will put Page8 as a favourite roof top destination when lock down finishes. Just what I need a drink with a stunning view.
